Pomona-Pitzer faced Cal Lutheran in a battle for second
place in SCIAC on Saturday. The Hens and Regals fought to a 1-1 draw after 110
minutes of play, resulting in the second tie of the season between these two
teams. Cal Lutheran controlled the first half of the game, but the Regals only
goal came off a penalty kick after a handball in the box 22 minutes into the
game. The second half saw a lot of action from both teams. The Hens tallied the
equalizer in the 59th minute with a breakaway goal scored by sophomore Anna
Renery. The play was started by senior Aliza Norwood who stole a ball off a Cal
Lu player in midfield and sent a great through ball to Renery. The score
remained 1-1 through regulation, bringing the Hens their seventh overtime of the
season. Although Pomona-Pitzer outshot Cal Lu five-to-two in the overtime
periods, they could not find the back of the net. The tie gives the Hens enough
points in SCIAC play to guarantee second place this season. They remain one
point behind conference leader Redlands, with each team having one game left to
play. On Monday, Pomona-Pitzer travels to Eagle Rock to take on Occidental in a
make-up game. |
