Women's Water Polo: Sagehens Fall To No. 22 Cal Baptist 13-8 To Open ASU Tournament

The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team fell to No. 22 ranked Cal Baptist 13-8 on Friday night at the ASU Invitational.

The Sagehens were led by freshman Anna Yu who scored three goals for Pomona-Pitzer in the loss. Junior goal keeper Ahsha Earwood tallied seven saves and got one steal in the game.

Cal Baptist started out on top as Hannah Evans scored two early goals in the first to take a 2-0 lead over Pomona-Pitzer.

The Sagehens responded as junior Christina Williamson and freshman Nohea Kahauelelio each tallied a goal to tie the game up at 2-2 going into the second.

Pomona-Pitzer took a brief lead in the second quarter as freshman Kyla Pickell found the net to put them on top 3-2 but Cal Baptist responded with four-straight goals to end the quarter and went into the locker room with a 6-3 lead over the Sagehens.

The Sagehens came out in the second half and began to fight back as they scored four goals in the quarter. Yu registered a hat-trick in the quarter as she scored three goals and Pickell added her second of the night but the Sagehens still trailed Cal Baptist 7-10 heading into the fourth.

Pomona-Pitzer added one more goal in the fourth from sophomore Jocelyn Castro but the Lancers held off the Sagehens to take game one of the ASU Tournament.

The Sagehens next take on Pacific at 12:00 p.m. and Michigan at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19th in day two of the ASU Tournament.
