LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Occidental 12-6 on Thursday afternoon.
The Sagehens jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter as they netted four goals coming from freshman Megan Snow, sophomore Erica Halaszynski and two from sophomore Morgan McCracken to take a 4-1 lead going into the second.
The Tigers were shut out by junior goal keeper Ahsha Earwood in the second quarter and added three more goals to their total as freshman Anna Yu, sophomore Jocelyn Castro and junior Christina Williamson found the back of the net to give the Sagehens a 7-1 lead going into the half.
Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental each scored three goals to open up the second half as Castro scored her second goal of the game and junior Chessa Burke and freshman Natalie Hill scored their first goals of the game to make the score 10-4 heading into the fourth.
The Sagehens added two more goals to their total in the fourth with Halaszynski and Williamson scoring their second goals of the game. The Tigers also netted two goals in the fourth but the Sagehens took their second win of the season over Occidental.
The Sagehens next participate in the ASU Tournament on Friday, March 18th.
