WHITTIER, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team dropped both matches in the Whittier Mini-Tournament with a 12-8 loss to Azusa Pacific and a 13-4 loss to Cal Baptist.
The Sagehens started the tournament off with their game against Azusa Pacific.
The Cougars started the match off with a strong first quarter as they posted six goals in the first to jump out to an early lead. The Sagehens scored three goals of their own in the first quarter one each by sophomore Jocelyn Castro, freshman Nohea Kahauelelio and freshman Kyla Pickell as they trailed 6-3 after the first.
Junior Chessa Burke added one goal in the second for Pomona-Pitzer and the Cougars tacked on three more as Azusa Pacific lead 9-4 at the half.
The third quarter ended evenly with each team posting two goals as freshman Anna Yu scored her first goal of the match and Kahauelelio added another one to her tally.
Castro tacked on two more goals to her total in the fourth but the Sagehens could not mount a comeback as they fell to Azusa Pacific in game one.
The Sagehens struggled to find their offense in game two against Cal Baptist as Pomona-Pitzer was shut out in the first quarter of play.
The Sagehens found the net in the second quarter as Castro scored her first goal of the match but the Lancers led 7-1 at the break.
The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team next participates in the Tina Finali Invitational in Thousand Oaks on Saturday, February 27th at 9:15 a.m.
