Sagehens Stay Perfect In SCIAC, Defeat Redlands 9-7

Redlands, Calif. - Freshman Alyssa Woodward (Riverside, Calif. - pictured, photo by Bryan Matsumoto) scored three goals to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team to a close 9-7 win over Redlands on the road on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 13-16 overall on the season, including 3-0 in the SCIAC and 8-0 against NCAA Division III teams. Redlands falls to 12-13 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC with the loss. 

Freshman Vicky Gyorffy (Sacramento, Calif.) continued her clutch play of late with two goals, after earning the SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week on Tuesday following her three-goal performance in a 15-13 overtime win over No. 1 Occidental on Saturday.

Senior Annie Oxborough-Yankus (Wallingford, Conn.) added two goals for the Sagehens, while freshmen Sarah Westcott (Menlo Park, Calif.) and Mahalia Prater-Fahey (San Diego, Calif.) added a goal apiece.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Wednesday, when it hosts La Verne and Azusa Pacific at Haldeman Pool.
