Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team earned the a Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), it was announced this week.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Pomona-Pitzer was one of 90 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor and one of 533 college and high school programs to earn the distinction.
The Volleyball team joins a growing list of Sagehen athletic squads honored by their national governing bodies for strong academic performance. Men's and Women's track were honored this week as well, while Men's and Women's Swimming and Men's and Women's Tennis earned national distinction earlier this month.
The Sagehens open their new season on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1, when they co-host the Pacific Coast Classic, along with CMS and La Verne.
