Volleyball Hosts Caltech At Rains Center This Evening

Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team will look to take another important step towards a postseason berth when it hosts Caltech this evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Rains Center.

The Sagehens are coming off a 3-1 road win over Redlands on Tuesday, which pulled them back even at 2-2 in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer has also defeated Whittier 3-2, while falling to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3-1 and Occidental 3-2.

Caltech comes in at 0-4 in the SCIAC, making this evening's contest an important one for Pomona-Pitzer as it looks to defend its home court and solidfy a top four spot in the conference standings. The top four finishers earn bids to the SCIAC Tournament on Nov. 3-5.

Freshman Ellen Yamasaki (Salinas, Calif.) was pivotal in the win over Redlands with 17 kills and 18 digs, leading the Sagehens in both categories. After Pomona-Pitzer dropped the first set 25-20, Yamasaki had the set-winning kill in the second set (25-23) and the tie-breaking kill in the third set (25-23) to set up the winning point on a service ace from Kenzie Aries (Encinitas, Calif.).

The Sagehens have a quick turnaround after the Caltech match, as they travel to league-leading Cal Lutheran on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.
