Solomon/Wang Reach Quarterfinals Of Ojai Doubles Championship
Ojai, Calif. - Juniors Jamie Solomon (Los Gatos, Calif.) and Kara Wang (Saratoga, Calif. - pictured) reached the quarterfinals of the Ojai Valley Tournament doubles championship before falling to the fourth-seeded team of Jordan Kimura and Bettina Radke from Concordia (Irvine) 6-1, 6-4.
Solomon also reached the round of 16 in the singles competition before meeting top-seeded Marie Boura of Fresno Pacific and falling 6-0, 7-5, battling back from a rough first set to push Boura into extra frames in the second.
Solomon and Wang reached the quarterfinals with an easy win over La Verne in the Round of 32 (6-2, 6-0) and an upset win over eighth-seeded Jenny Johansson and Kunkanda Phukzhampa of the Academy of Art in the Round of 16.
Sammy Chao (Hong Kong, China) and Jessica Hsu (Henderson, Nev.) reached the Round of 32 in singles on Thursday before being eliminated. The Ojai Tournament includes teams from the Division II, NAIA, and Division III levels.
Pomona-Pitzer will try to keep its momentum going from the Ojai Tournament when it competes in the SCIAC Championships next week at Cal Lutheran, where it will the second seed.
