Women's Swimming and Diving: Maddie Kauahi Named National And SCIAC Swimmer Of The Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Pomona-Pitzer swimmer freshman Maddie Kauahi has been selected as the TeamUnify CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmer of the Week and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Swimmer of the Week.

This is the first time Kauahi has won the National Swimmer of the Week and has won the TeamUnify CollegeSwimming.com SCIAC Swimmer of the Week for the fourth time this season.

The Sagehens are coming off of a week where they defeated their rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a SCIAC dual meet for the first time since 2003.

Kauahi helped Pomona-Pitzer accomplish that with two individual first-place finishes and helped her 200 Yard Medley Relay team take first place as well.

The team of freshman Sarah Jin, freshman Angela Ling, freshman, Erin Bigus and Kauahi finished the relay with a time of 1:46.24.

Kauahi went on to post her fastest times of the year in her two individual events with a new school record in the 50 Yard Freestyle at 23.94 and a 52.44 in the 100 Yard Freestyle.

Pomona-Pitzer ends the season with an 11-1 record in dual meets and went a perfect 8-0 in SCIAC play. The Sagehens next take part in the SCIAC Championships in La Mirada on Thursday, February 18th. Prelims will take place at 9 a.m. and the finals will start at 5 p.m.
