Pomona-Pitzer Women's XC Goes 5-2 at Multi-Dual Meet

Pomona-Pitzer's women's cross country team finished 5-2 in the 2009 SCIAC Multi-Dual meet at La Mirada Park on Saturday, October 17. Each team scored in a dual meet against the seven other SCIAC schools. Occidental went 7-0, followed by Claremont-M-S at 6-1, and Pomona-Pitzer at 5-2. The Sagehens defeated Whittier, Redlands, Cal Lutheran, La Verne and Caltech.

Senior Alicia Freese returned to action after months away from racing due to injury, and showed little rust by placing second in 22:40 over the 6000 meter (3.7 mile) course. Frosh Roxy Cook finished seventh (23:36) and senior Rose Haag eighth (23:36) as the Sagehens were the first school with three runners across the line. Pomona-Pitzer's top five was rounded out by senior Rachel Haislet (19th, 24:08) and Zoe Meyers (34th, 25:06), who was also back in the lineup after an injury break.

RESULTS

"We ran well, and it was good to see many of our injured runners back in action," stated Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "I think we can close the gap to those top two teams in two weeks at the SCIAC Championships. I thought Rachel ran particularly well in our number four spot today. She was patient early, and then aggressive late. Alicia also ran well in a very controlled effort, since she hasn't raced since last fall. I enjoyed seeing her back in uniform."

Pomona-Pitzer doesn't race this coming weekend, but resumes action at the SCIAC Championships on October 31 at Prado Park in Chino. The women's race begins at 9:00am.
