Women's T&F Finishes 6-1 at Multi-Duals
Pomona-Pitzer's women's track and field team finished with a strong 6-1 record at the 2009 SCIAC Multi-Duals meet held at Whittier on April 11. Scoring in a dual meet format against all seven SCIAC opponents, the Sagehens defeated Caltech, Cal Lutheran, La Verne, Occidental, Redlands and Whittier, but fell to cross-campus rival Claremont-M-S.
Athletes posted a number of exceptionally strong individual marks, including overall wins by junior Claire McGroder in the 400 meters (58.25), and a stunning 4x100 meter relay win in 50.00 with Connie Cheng, McGroder, Traci Lopez, and Coleen Holliday.
On the track, Cheng ran a strong 100/200 sprint double (12.78/26.54), McGroder came back in the 200m (25.92) to place second overall, Maddy Kieselhorst ran a strong 800/1500 double (2:26.56/4:53.14), Rose Haag ran a strong 3000m steeplechase/5000m double (11:56.26/18:42.08).
On the field, Mica Fein upped her week-old school record in the pole vault to 11-0 to place second, Marita Pickron set a personal best in the hammer at 114-10, and Coleen Holliday surprised in the high jump at 4- 9 to score valuable team points.
Pomona-Pitzer's Traci Lopez was all over the stadium. The frosh standout competed in the 400m, 400 hurdles, jumped in the high jump, long jump and triple jump, and competed on relays.
Pomona-Pitzer does not compete this coming weekend, but finishes the 2009 regular season at the 2009 SCIAC Championships on Saturday, April 25 and Monday, April 27 at Occidental College in Eagle Rock.
