Women's Tennis Completes Successful '09 Campaign


The Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Tennis team wrapped up another successful season, reaching the NCAA's Elite Eight as a team. In addition,  the Sagehen's top doubles team of Siobhan Finicane PO ’10 and Olivia Muesse PO ’10 advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championships, falling in the final.

Singles player, and number one seed, Siobhan Finicane ’10 bested Janelle Arita from DePauw in the first round of of the singles championships, but fell to Jackie Schtemberg from The College of New Jersey in the round of 16. While falling short of last years singles title, Finicane was named an NCAA Singles All-American for her outstanding season and tournament performance.

Finicane fared better in the doubles matches with partner Muesse. The pair beat the number one team from Emory in the quarterfinals. They were victorious over Denison’s number one team in the semifinals, but lost to the University of Chicago in the finals.

Finicane was named the SCIAC Most Valuable Player for the third consecutive year, and Pomona-Pitzer's Female Most Valuable Athlete. Rebecca Lange PO ’09 was named the ITA's West Regional Senior Player of the Year and the Pomona-Pitzer Female Scholar-Athlete.

Assistant Coach Brittany Biebl was named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Women's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year.
