CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse team defeated Whitman 19-4 on Saturday afternoon at the South Athletics Complex.
The Sagehens were led by senior Sarah Markowitz who tallied four goals in the win for Pomona-Pitzer.
Pomona-Pitzer had its offense working in the first half as the Sagehens started off the game with nine unanswered goals.
Junior Rebecca Long, Markowitz, freshman Lilly Thomey and senior Katie Savino all netted two goals each in the first half and sophomore Sallie Marx, senior Aubrey Douglass, senior Ally McLaughlin and freshman Natalie Slater added one each as the Sagehens went into the locker room with a 12-1 lead.
The offense didn't stop for Pomona-Pitzer in the second half as they outscored Whitman 7-3 to end the game.
Senior Nicola Ying Fry started out the half with a goal in the first two minutes and Long completed a hat-trick with her third goal with 23:49 left in the game.
Whitman found some offense as they scored three of the next four goals to cut the lead down to 15-4.
The Sagehens closed the game out with four-straight goals as Markowitz added back-to-back goals, Slater found her second goal and McLaughlin tallied her third goal for a hat-trick as Pomona-Pitzer moved to 6-0 on the year.
The Sagehens next host non-conference opponent Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday, March 19th at 7:00 p.m.
