WHITTIER, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team bounced back to defeat Southern California intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Whittier 75-63 on Saturday afternoon at Graham Athletic Center.
Pomona-Pitzer had four players reach double-digits with juniors Alaina Woo and Basha Brulee-Wills leading the way with a game-high 15 points each, freshman Melissa Hooke with 13 and freshman Anita Romero came off the bench with 14.
Whittier was led by Carly Buechler who led the Poets with 15 points in the loss.
The Poets jumped out to an early lead as they opened up the first quarter on a 16-6 run. The Sagehens responded and cut the lead down to 18-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Pomona-Pitzer broke open the game in the second and third quarter as the Sagehens outscored the Poets 20-13 in the second quarter and 19-8 in the third to take a commanding 53- 39 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Sagehens played a complete game as they led in every offensive category and out-rebounded the Poets 42-33.
Pomona-Pitzer held off the Poets attempt of a comeback and claimed their fifth SCIAC win of the season.
The Sagehens next take the court as they travel to Redlands on Tuesday, February 2nd at 7:30 p.m.
