CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team notched their second-straight Southern California Intercollegiate Conference win with a 77-68 victory over the Whittier Poets on Tuesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Whittier was led by Christine Miller who had a game-high 22 points. Priscilla Rodriguez chipped in with 19 points in the loss for the Poets.
The Poets jumped out to a lead to open up the game after two-straight three-pointers to give Whittier a 13-4 advantage over the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer battled back in the first quarter and tied the game up in the final minutes after a layup by freshman Anita Romero to make the score 17-17.
The Sagehens took control of the game in the second quarter as they opened up on a 10-2 run to go up 27-19 with 5:47 to go in the half.
Pomona-Pitzer maintained its lead throughout the first half and entered the locker room with a 40-29 lead over Whittier. Brulee-Wills led the Sagehens with 13 first half points.
The Poets came out ready to play in the second half as they went on a 10-4 run to cut the Sagehen lead down to 42-39.
Pomona-Pitzer regrouped and took back control of the game as they ended the third quarter with a 54-47 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer played solid defense down the stretch and did not let the Poets gain any ground in the fourth quarter as the Sagehens held on for their second-straight SCIAC win of the season.
The Sagehens continue SCIAC play as they next take the court against the Caltech Beavers on Saturday, January 16th at 7:00 p.m.
