Softball Finishes Sweep Of Menlo

By Jamie Goldberg

CLAREMONT, CA - Menlo jumped on the board first in game two, but P-P was quick to retaliate, eventually taking the game, 6-5 in 11 innings.

After Menlo scored one in the top of the first, a double by Ali Corley (PO '11) and a single by Brianna Marcantoni (PI '12) drove in two runs for the Sagehens giving them a 2-1 lead. A few P-P miscues allowed Menlo to rally for three runs in the fifth. Yet, in the sixth Marcantoni showed her power with a two-run homer run to center, tying the game up at 4-4. Neither team could put a run on the board in the sixth or seventh and the game was forced into extra innings. A Menlo single put the Oaks up 5-4 in the tenth. In the bottom of the inning Corley got her second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to left field, tying the game back up at 5-5. With the game still locked 5-5 in the eleventh, Cross and Rabak hit back-to-back singles to start off a Sagehen rally. With bases loaded and one out, Jamie Goldberg (PO '11) drilled a walk off single to left field to give the Sagehens a 6-5 win and the sweep.
