Men's Track and Field: Sagehens Sweep Redlands And Whittier To Start 2-0 In SCIAC

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's track and field team defeated Whittier 132-26 and defeated Redlands 95-67  to start the season 2-0 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Sagehens started out the day with sophomore Faraaz Rashidi taking third place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.21.

Freshman Marcus Polk finished in second place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.46 and came in third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.16.

Freshman Shayn Jackson claimed third place in the 400 meter dash as he clocked in with a time of 52.87.

Pomona-Pitzer finished first, second and third in the 800 meter run as sophomore Nick Vucovich claimed first  with a 1:57.25, senior Andrew Segraves in second with a 1:57.46 and sophomore Gabe Elliot came in third with a time of 1:58.71.

Freshman Peter Davis and junior Paul Messana finished first and second in the 1500 meter run as Davis clocked in at 4:01.19 and Messana came in at 4:03.58.

The Sagehens finished with the eight best times in the 5000 meter run. Leading the pack was senior John Fowler who finished in first with a time of 14:49.22.

Freshman Christopher Neikirk came in first place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.34 and claimed second place in the 110 meter hurdles as he crossed the finish line at 15.08. Neikirk also went on to take first in the high jump with a jump of 6.00.75 feet.

The Sagehens also took first and second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with senior Corey Purcella coming in first place with a 9:33.65 and freshman Julian Degroot-Lutzner came in second with a time of 10:02.96.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to take first place in the 4x400 meter relay with the team of Neikirk, Segraves, senior Bennett Kopperud and Messana clocking in at 3:24.66.

Sophomore Brandon Hull claimed second place in the pole vault with a score of 11-07.25 and senior Alex Chong finished in second in the long jump with a distance of 21.06 feet.

Sophomore Reggie Reed came in second place in the shot put competition with a throw of 42-03.50 feet.

The Sagehens finished the day with a first place finish in the javelin throw as sophomore Calvin Aylward threw for 172.05 feet.

The Sagehens next take the track as they travel to the Occidental Distance Carnival and Sprint Fest at Eagle Rock on Friday, March 11th at 5:00 p.m.
