Sagehens Rank Second Nationally In Team GPA
Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track and Field team ranked second in the nation in Division III with a 3.56 cumulative GPA, it was announced today by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Pomona-Pitzer trailed only Caltech (3.60) on a list of 74 Division III schools that earned All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA. Middlebury was third on the list with a 3.53 team grade point average.
In addition, three members of the Men's Track and Field team earned individual All-Academic status from the USTFCCA: Anders Crabo, Ryan Meyer and Matt Sloane. All-Academic individuals need at least a 3.3 GPA and a top 35 ranking in an individual event or a top 25 ranking in a relay to qualify.
Crabo was a national qualifier in the steeplechase, finishing fifth to earn All-America honors for the second time in his career. Meyer and Sloane, meanwhile, were part of Pomona-Pitzer's top-25 team in the 4x400 relay.
Crabo also had individual honors for his academic and athletic success earlier this summer, when he earned second-team Capital One Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in June.
On the women's side, the Sagehens also earned All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA, while Annie Lydens earned individual All-Academic honors. Lydens was a first team Capital One CoSIDA Academic-All American this year.
