Men's Tennis: Sagehens Defeat Gustavus Adolphus 7-2 In First Match Of Stag-Hen Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's tennis team defeated Gustavus Adolphus 7-2 to open up the 2016 Stag-Hen Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

The Sagehens began the tournament as the No. 2 seed up against the No. 7 seed Gustavus Adolphus.

Pomona-Pitzer began the day with a 2-1 lead as they found wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches.

Graham Maassen and Spencer Simonides started the day with an 8-0 win at the No. 1 doubles and Jonathan Kim and Jake Yasgoor won in the No. 2 spot by the score of 8-3.

The Sagehens started the singles competition off as Maassen won in the No. 2 spot with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win. Kim followed that up with a win in the No. 3 spot as he defeated his opponent 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.

Bello earned a win in his match at the No. 4 spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory and Sam Malech finished off his opponent by the score of 6-1, 6-1.

Pomona-Pitzer ended the day as Josh Gearou capped off the match with a win in the No. 6 spot 6-0, 6-3.

The Sagehens second match of the day against Emory was suspended due to rain and will continue on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. The winner of that match will go on to play the winner of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Trinity for the finals.
