The Pomona-Pitzer men's tennis team will take part in the 2016 ITA Division III National Indoor Championships on Friday, February 19th hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. All of the matches will take place at the Cleveland Racquet Club.
This is the first trip back to the ITA National Indoor Championships for the Sagehens since 2012 where they finished 1-3.
Pomona-Pitzer is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation, which is the highest ranking in program history. With a win at the ITA Indoor Championships, the Sagehens will take over the No. 1 ranking and be named as Indoor National Champions.
The tournament is filled with elite D-III talent this season as there are six top-ten teams participating in this year's championship including No. 3 Washington University (Mo.), No. 5 Emory University, No. 6 University of Chicago, No. 10 Kenyon College and defending their indoor title from 2015 is No. 8 Trinity University (Tex.).
Pomona-Pitzer enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face off against the No. 7 seed Carnegie Mellon in their first match. The winner of that match will go on to the semi-finals to face the winner of No. 3 seed Emory vs the No. 6 seed Kenyon.
The Sagehens are currently 1-1 overall on the year entering the ITA National Indoors after a 9-0 win over Occidental and an 8-1 loss against Division II Azusa Pacific.
