Men's Tennis: Sagehens Beat Occidental 9-0; Fall To Azusa Pacific 8-1

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer men's tennis team split with a win over Southern California intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Occidental 9-0 and lost to Azusa Pacific 8-1.

The Sagehens had a clean sweep over Occidental as the doubles teams won all three matches against the Tigers.

Antony Bello and Kalyan Chadalavada won their set 8-5, Spencer Simonides and Marko Mandic took their set 8-2 and Jake Yasgoor and Josh Gearou capped off the doubles competition with an 8-0 win.

The Singles players went undefeated as well for Pomona-Pitzer. Graham Maassen started things off with a 6-2, 6-1 victory followed by Bello in the number two spot with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Gearou took care of his singles match with a 6-2, 6-0 win and Chadalavada won 6-1, 6-0.

The Sagehens kept it rolling as the final two singles players won their matches as well with Sam Gearou winning 6-0, 6-0 and Spencer Chiu capped off the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

The second half of the double header did not go as well as the first half did for the Sagehens as Azusa Pacific won all but one match.

The lone win for the Sagehens came off the racquets of Gearou and Chadalavada as the team won their doubles match 8-5.

The Sagehens next take the court on Friday, February 19th as they travel to the ITA National Indoors hosted by Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio.
