Men's, Women's Doubles Teams Chosen For Nationals
Claremont, Calif. - The Men's Tennis doubles team of seniors Max Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho) and Frankie Allinson (McGregor, Texas), and the Women's Tennis doubles team of Sammy Chao (Hong Kong) and Kara Wang (Saratoga, Calif.) were both chosen to compete in the NCAA Championships on May 23-25.
There are 16 doubles teams selected nationally in both genders to compete in the NCAA Division III Doubles championships, which will take place after the team championships have been decided from May 20-22. All of the NCAA Championship events this season will take place in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Sabel and Allinson have played all year at No. 1 doubles and have compiled an 18-9 record in the spring, including 18-5 since an 0-4 start and a 9-1 mark in their last 10 matches. They took wins in all three SCIAC Tournament matches, including in the semifinals against No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, their second straight win against the Stags. The duo will be making their first appearance in nationals as a doubles team.
Chao and Wang, meanwhile, compiled a 14-8 record in doubles this spring, playing exclusively in the No. 1 spot, including 8-2 in SCIAC competition. Wang has previously competed in the nationals in doubles as a freshman and sophomore, while this will be Chao's first appearance at the competition.
The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team will be in the NCAA West Regionals this weekend, opening with a 2 p.m. match on Saturday at CMS against the winner of Friday's match between Redlands and Whitman.
