Strong Doubles Performance Not Enough Against Top-Ranked CMS

Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team fared well in doubles against the top-ranked team in the nation, but CMS dominated singles and took an 8-1 win over the Sagehens on Saturday.

With the loss, Pomona-Pitzer slips to 5-12 overall and 0-3 in the SCIAC. CMS improves to 15-3 overall and 2-0 in the SCIAC.

Sophomores Connor Hudson (Golden, Colo.) and Connor Sutton (Overland Park, Kan.) took a 9-8 win in the tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, winning the breaker 7-4. The No. 1 doubles team of seniors Max Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho) and Frankie Allinson (McGregor, Texas) also had a chance to win its match up 7-6 with a chance to serve for the win, but they were unable to hold and fell 9-7.

However, the close battles at doubles didn't translate at singles, where CMS was able to pick up straight-set wins at all six lines to cruise to the win. Allinson had the closest battle at No. 4, where he went to a first-set tiebreaker with Alex Lane before falling 7-6.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Friday for a home match against Gustavus Adolphus.
