Men's Tennis Closes Out Stag-Hen With 6-3 Win Over Skidmore
Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team finished the Stag-Hen Invitational with a 6-3 win over Skidmore on Saturday morning.
With the win, Pomona-Pitzer improves to 3-7 on the year, after falling in both matches yesterday to Bowdoin and Swarthmore.
The Sagehens struggled in singles yesterday in their two losses, even falling in all six after sweeping the doubles from Swarthmore to get off to a 3-0 lead. This time, though, Pomona-Pitzer took a 2-1 lead after doubles and won four of six singles matches.
Senior Max Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho - pictured right) and Frankie Allinson (McGregor, Texas - pictured left) won their third straight doubles match of the weekend at No. 1, this time pulling it out 9-7 (after winning 8-1 in both matches yesterday. Sabel and Allinson also both won their singles matches as well to lead the Sagehens to the win (Sabel at No. 1 singles, Allinson at No. 4).
Sophomore Kevin Wei (San Diego, Calif.) provided the clinching win for Pomona-Pitzer at No. 6, pulling out the third set 6-1 after falling in a tiebreaker in the second set. Sophomore Connor Hudson (Golden, Colo.) also won his singles match, while teaming with sophomore Connor Sutton (Overland Park, Kan.) to go 3-0 in doubles on the weekend.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action at Pauley Courts for two matches on Tuesday, facing Hardin-Simmons in the morning at 10 a.m., and Williams in the afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
