Men's Swimming and Diving: Sagehens Blow Past Tigers 208.5-58.5

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's swimming and diving team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Occidental 208.5-58.5 on Saturday afternoon at Haldeman Pool.

Pomona-Pitzer dominated the competition as the Sagehens took first place in all but one event during the dual meet.

The Sagehens also set a new Pomona-Pitzer pool record in the 800 Yard Free Relay with two teams breaking the old record. The team of junior Danny Villars, Sophomore Samuel To, senior Austin Abrams and sophomore Spencer Satz broke the record with a time of 7:12.17 and the team of senior Phillip Clayman, freshman Jack Swanson, freshman Erik Garcia and sophomore Mark Hallman now hold the new record with their time of 7:02.68.

Junior Jeremy Goldberg started out with a first place finish in the Three Meter Dive with a score of 189.90. Goldberg also took first in the One Meter Dive with a score of 162.38.

Pomona-Pitzer started off the swimming events with a win in the 400 Yard Medley Relay with the team of Garcia, freshman Teddy Koerner, and freshman Adrian Hui coming in with a time of 3:32.05.

The Sagehens then took first in the first individual event with senior Andy Wright winning the 1,650 Freestyle at 17:07.61.

Clayman followed that up with a win in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:44.81 and also won the 100 Yard Fly at 52.59.

To won his first individual event of the day in the 100 Yard Backstroke clocking in at 3.97. Koerner won the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 59.78

Sophomore Alexander Landau took first place in the 200 Yard Fly as he finished with a time of 2:00.03.

Hallman took first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 21.55 and followed that up with a win in the 100 Yard Freestyle clocking in at 47.29.

Garcia came back to win an individual event in the 200 Yard Backstroke coming in with a time of 1:54.79.

Freshman Nathan Hahn won the 200 Yard Breaststroke for the Sagehens with a time of 2:11.24.

Finally, the Sagehens took first in the Mixed 500 Yard Freestyle with junior James Baker clocking in at 4:56.33.

The Sagehens next hit the water on Saturday, February 6th as Pomona-Pitzer host rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 11 a.m. at Haldeman Pool.
