Sagehens Cruise To SCIAC Win Over Caltech
Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swimming and Diving team captured a 199-98 win over Caltech on Saturday morning at Haldeman Pool.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-2 in dual meets this season, including 3-2 against SCIAC opponents.
Freshman Hugh Berryman won two individual events for the Sagehens, as he edged teammate Kevin Lu in a photo finish in the 500 yard freestyle and also earned the 50 yard breaststroke victory. Senior Tyson Chihara (pictured) added a win the 400-yard medley in the final individual event of the day.
Senior Max Scholten did not compete in his top events (100 and 200 backstroke), but instead earned a win in the 50-yard freestyle to help the Sagehens sweep the freestyle events. Senior Joe LaBriola won the 100-yard freestyle, freshman Kevin Byrne won the 200-yard and sophomore Tyler Hill Captured the 1000-yard.
Seniors Tom Cleveland and Chris Wright earned the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly, respectively, and sophomore Nathan Yale earned the 100-yard breaststroke for the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer also won both relay events (the medley and the freestyle), while the Beavers earned the diving competitions, with Justin Johnson earning the one-meter and three-meter, and the backstroke, with Peter Buhler sweeping the 100 and 200-yard.
The Sagehens will be back in action when they host La Verne next Saturday for a 10:30 a.m. meet.
