Men's Track Competes at CA/NV Championships

The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens competed at the 2009 California-Nevada Track & Field Championships.  The meet, held at UCLA's Drake Stadium, allows NCAA Division I, II, and NAIA schools to compete head-to-head.

Freshman sprinter John Lewis ran the 110m high hurdles and the 100m dash.  He finished both races with impressive midseason times.  Lewis' 110m HH performance ranks him 2nd in the SCIAC while his 100m dash mark places Lewis 1st in the conference.

Competing in the 3,000m steeplechase were Anders Crabo, Charles Enscoe and Paul Balmer.  Anders and Paul are both new to this grueling distance hurdling event but each has managed to catch the attention of conference competitors.  After this week of competition Anders finds himself ranked 2nd in the conference in the event while Paul moves from 9th to the number 6 spot.  In just two weeks, Paul has dropped his time from 10:24 to 10:09 and there appears to be considerable room for continued growth.  Sophomore, Charles Enscoe, who is in his second year of running the steeplechase is currently ranked 4th in the SCIAC.

Freshman, Colin Flynn was in action on the second day of competition.  Flynn ran the 1500 meters with an all-time best mark of 4:03.27.  Flynn was in a heat packed with talented runners from UCLA and UC Irvine but refused to back down.  He decided to take lead early in the race and maintained the number one position for most of the second and third laps. Flynn is currently ranked 3rd in the SCIAC in the 1500m run; teammate John Mering holds the number one spot with a mark of 3:53.24

Torrey Olson also ran an all-time best mark at the meet.  His 5,000m time of 15:14 is an significant improvement over his previous PR of 15:30.

In the field events, sophomore high jumper Michael Grier matched his all-time best mark with a leap of 1.90 meters (6'2.75").  Grier's UCLA performance holds him at the #3 spot in the conference.
