Baseball Clinches SCIAC Championships With Win Over La Verne
Pomona-Pitzer clinched their fourth SCIAC Championship in the
past eight years on Friday with a 5-4 victory over the
University of La Verne.
With the Sagehens leading 3-2 in the top of the the eigth inning,
La Verne rallied to score two runs with a hit batsmen, a
double and a run-scoring error. Unable to answer in the eighth
inning, the Sagehens were down to their final two outs in the
bottom of the ninth when Mike Silva singled and Teddy Bingham
followed with a two-run walk off home run that clinched an
outright SCIAC Championship for Pomona-Pitzer.
Sophomore right hand pitcher David Colvin led the way for the
Sagehens, tossing a complete game and striking out eight
without yielding a walk.
