Season Update

Nov 28: In the opening game of the annual “Wells Classic”, Pomona-Pitzer faced the Oberlin College Yoemen.  The Sagecocks struggled to find their range in the early going, and with 12:47 to play in the first half, Oberlin led 9-2.  The Sagecocks found their range and the rest of the half was all Pomona-Pitzer, with the first half ending…PO-PI 32, Oberlin 14.  The second half was evenly played, the margin never getting below 12, and the Sagecocks put this one in the win column, with a 69-56 victory.

Junior David Liss led a balanced PO-PI attack with 17, junior Adam Chaimowitz with 16, sophomore Shawn Stephan with 13, and senior Jeremy Namkung with 12.  The Sagecocks connected on 48% from the field, while holding the Yoemen to just 34%.

Nov 29: In the second night of the Classic, Pomona-Pitzer squared off with Willamette University from Salem, Oregon.  Both teams had their way at the offensive end throughout the first half and the lead changed hands, until a late burst gave Willamette a 44-38 lead at the half.  Both teams connected on 58% of their field goals in the first stanza.

Neither team could seize control and PO-PI trailed 67-64 with just over 3 minutes to play.  Down the stretch the Sagecocks would not get any closer, and PO-PI fell to the Bearcats, 80-72.  Chaimowitz and frosh Greg Wright led the PP scoring with 14 each, Shawn Stephan added 13, frosh Danny Brown 9, Jeremy Namkung and frosh Evan Zahniser finished with 8 apiece.

Dec 2: On Tuesday night the Sagecocks hosted The Masters College, a strong NAIA team from Santa Clarita.  The pace was fast in the early going, and at the break Masters had surged to a 50-42 lead.  The Sagecocks kept within striking distance, trailing 62-52 midway through the second half.  The fast pace and athleticism of the Mustangs began to take its toll, and the Sagecocks ran out of gas as the Mustangs pulled away down the stretch; final score… Masters 88, PO-PI 58.

Chaimowitz paced the Sagecocks with 17, Stephan 14, and frosh Jake Caron and Greg Wright pitched in 8 and 7, respectively.
