The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team concluded their historic 2009 season at the NCAA Division III Baseball regional this past weekend, falling to tournament champion Chapman University, 5-2.

Regional Field Set for Baseball
After capturing the 2009 SCIAC Championship, the Pomona-Pitzer baseball team is headed to Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon this week to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division III West Regional Baseball Championships.

Six Sagehens Receive Major Sports Awards
Six Pomona-Pitzer athletes were awarded the program's major sports awards in a campus ceremony on May 6, 2009. Senior Drew Hedman (baseball) and junior Siobhan Finicane (tennis) were named Most Valuable Athlete, senior Cameron Taylor (soccer/tennis) and junior Claire McGroder (soccer/track) were awarded for Athletic Excellence, and senior Kevin Kelley (football) and senior Becca Lange (tennis) were named Scholar-Athlete.

Hedman Named SCIAC Player of the Year
Drew Hedman was named SCIAC Player of the Year after leading the Sagehens to the 2009 conference championship. In 21 conference games, Hedman hit .460 with 10 home runs and 41 runs batted in.

Baseball Clinches SCIAC Championships With Win Over La Verne
Pomona-Pitzer clinched their fourth SCIAC Championship in the past eight years on Friday with a 5-4 victory against the University of La Verne.

Baseball Ranked #1 in the Nation
The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team is having a stellar season, with a 15-0 SCIAC record and a 31-3 record overall. In addition, the American Baseball Coaches Association named the Sagehens No. 1 in its biweekly Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III Poll.

Hedman Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week
In three wins over the Occidental College this weekend, the senior 1st baseman from Redding, CA went seven for 11 (.636) at the plate, with three homeruns, a double, triple, and eight RBI's. On Friday, in the Sagehen's 18-4 road win over the Tigers, Hedman hit for the cycle and drove in five runs.

Pomona-Pitzer athletics swept the SCIAC Athlete of the Week award, as sophomore Quarterback (PI) Jake Caron and senior volleyball player Megan Prior (PO) were named for their outstanding performances last week (9/15-21).
