CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball team got their first Southern California Intercollegiate Conference win against Redlands 63-60 on Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Redlands was led by Al Bjekovic who had 18 points. Kyle Husslein also had double-digit numbers with 15 points in the loss for the Bulldogs.
The Sagehens jumped out to a 10-3 run to open up the game. The Bulldogs responded and outscored Pomona-Pitzer 12-5 to tie the game up 15-15 with 9:35 remaining in the first half.
The game kept close until the end of the first half as the Sagehens began to pull away with three minutes remaining and went into the locker room with a 31-27 lead. Rosenbaum had 10 points at the half.
The Sagehens kept their lead in the second half and took their largest lead of the game at 53-44 after Farone-Collins made three-straight baskets with 6:18 remaining.
The Bulldogs battled back furiously and tied the game up at 55-55 after a Bjekovic three-point shot with 3:30 left in the game.
The Sagehens took the lead back after Mitchell Finkel tipped in a lob to put the Sagehens up 61-60 with 59 seconds remaining.
A costly turnover killed the Bulldogs momentum and Pomona-Pitzer held on for its first SCIAC win of the season.
The Sagehens next take the court on Wednesday, January 13th as they host Whittier at 7:30 p.m.
