Men's Basketball: Finkel Drops Career-High 21 Points; Sagehens Fall To Panthers 73-62

ORANGE, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Chapman 73-62 on Wednesday night at the Hutton Sports Center.

Pomona-Pitzer was led by junior Mitchell Finkel who had a career-high 21 points and 15 rebounds. Also in double-digits for the Sagehens was senior Gibson Farone-Collins with 13 points, sophomore Hunter Lowry with 11 and freshman Daniel Rosenbaum with 10.

Chapman was led by Cam Haslam who a game-high 22 points. Luke Hamlin chipped in with 16 points in the win for the Panthers.

Pomona-Pitzer started out behind as the Panthers jumped out to a 14-4 run to open up the first half.

The Sagehens chipped away at the Panthers' lead and tied the game up at 19-19 after a Farone-Collins jumper with 7:08 left in the half.

Chapman regained its rhythm and outscored Pomona-Pitzer 15-6 in the remainder of the half as the Panthers went into the locker room up 34-25.

The Panthers continued to build their lead in the second half as they had their largest lead of the night up 17 points with 7:17 left in the game.

Pomona-Pitzer got hot late in the game and battled back to only trail the Panthers by eight points with four minutes remaining but Chapman was able to hold off the late comeback and hand the Sagehens their second-straight SCIAC loss.

The Sagehens continue SCIAC play as they host Redlands on Saturday, January 9th at 2:00 p.m.
