CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team bounced back from their two-game losing streak with a 7-5 win over Bates College on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Sagehens used a staff of pitchers in their game against Bates as 9 different Sagehens saw time on the mound. Starter Nicholas Radich came out with the win after some early offense got Pomona-Pitzer started.
Pomona-Pitzer tacked on one more in the fourth on a beautifully placed bunt on a squeeze play by Adam Hinthorne found a gap between first and second base and brought home one run.
Nishioka got on base again in the seventh and got driven in as Omori beat out a ground ball to short. Kevin Brice would then smack a double to left field as Omori came around to score and gave the Sagehens a 7-0 lead going into the eighth.
Bates finally got on the board in the eighth as a two-out triple by Ryan McCarthy set the stage for an RBI single by John Dinucci to give Bates its first run of the game.
The Bobcats had a big two-out rally as they went on to load the bases in the inning and cleared them on an RBI single and an error led to Bates getting four more in the inning to cut the Pomona-Pitzer lead down to just 7-5.
Rosenbaum came in and got his first save of the year as the Sagehens held off the Bobcats late rally and took the victory.
The Sagehens next host SCIAC opponent Redlands on Friday, February 26th at 2:30 p.m. at Alumni Field.
