Four Sagehens Earn ABCA All-West Region Honors

Claremont, Calif. - Four members of the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team were named All-West Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), it was announced today.

Senior first baseman James Campbell (Lookout Mountain, Tenn. - pictured), junior outfielder Nick Gentili (Glendale, Calif.) and freshman pitcher/utility player Jake Bruml (San Mateo, Calif.) were all named to the ABCA West Region Second Team, while junior outfielder Erik Munzer (Beverly Hills, Calif.) earned third-team honors.

Campbell was chosen to the second team after a season which saw him rank among the national leaders in home runs and RBI for most of the year, before finishing at .397 with 11 homers and 49 RBI. Campbell was also named a third-team All-American by D3Baseball.com last month.

Gentili was neck-and-neck with Campbell all season long for the three triple crown categories, before finishing with a team-high .401 batting average, to go along with seven homers and 41 RBI. Gentili was a Capital One third-team Academic All-America selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bruml had an immediate impact as both a hitter and a pitcher, ending the year with a .323 batting average, five homers and 33 RBI at the plate, and a perfect 7-0 record to go with a 3.99 ERA on the mound. Bruml was named the West Region Rookie of the Year by D3Baseball.com.

Munzer was an All-Region selection for the second year in a row after batting .338 with two homers and 33 RBI, to go along with a team-high 12 stolen bases. He was an all-region selection in two different sports this year, after also earning similar accolades for the men's soccer team in the fall.

The four players helped the Sagehens finish the season with a 25-12-1 overall record and a 19-9 mark in the SCIAC, one game out of first place.
