WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Overall: 11-6 SCIAC: 4-1

Pomona-Pitzer's women's basketball team won one and lost one in SCIAC play last week. Against Redlands on Tuesday the Sagehens came out on top of a see-saw battle that went down to the wire. The Bulldogs led by five at half-time but the momentum turned in the second half with the Hens outscoring Redlands 39-32. Sophomore forward Maya Jones scored 17 points, while Megan Gould added 14. Pomona-Pitzer lost a
close match at home on Friday to Cal Lutheran but the Sagehens remain tied for first place with the Regals with identical 4-1 conference records. Malia Langworthy hit 12 out of 18 from the floor and 4 for 4 from the line for a game, season, and career high 28 points.
After 17 games this season, Maya Jones leads the Pomona-Pitzer squad with an 11.3 scoring average per game. Malia Langworthy leads in rebounds (124) averaging 7.3 rebounds per game while Megan Gould leads in assists with 2.7 per game. The Hens continue conference play on the road this week playing Whittier Tuesday and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday.

MEN'S BASKETBALL Overall: 11-6 SCIAC: 6-0

Pomona-Pitzer's men's basketball team added two more to its win column last week, defeating Whittier and Caltech. The Sagehens remain on top in the conference with a 6-0 SCIAC record. Against Whittier, Pomona-Pitzer jumped to a 34-20 halftime lead and kept the lead through out the second half. Jeremiah Martin was high scorer with 25 points, while Vaughan Wilson added 21 points and 4 assists. Travis Bray was the third Sagehen in double figures, scoring 13.
Ryan Williams scored 17 points and Martin added 14 in a lop-sided win against Caltech. Martin's 18.2 scoring average and 6.0 rebounding average lead Pomona-Pitzer. Dylan Nachand and Vaughan Wilson lead the team in assists with 39 each. This week the Sagehens travel to La Verne on Wednesday and Redlands on Saturday.


WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING Overall: 9-2 SCIAC: 5-0

The Pomona-Pitzer women's swimming and diving team defeated Occidental and Whittier on Saturday in SCIAC competition. The Hens heated up the pool with numerous lifetime as well as season best performances. Alison Davis swam lifetime best scores in the 50 free and 800 free relay as did Claire Townsend, Corrine Levy, and Teresa Barcellos in the breastroke segment of the 400 medley relay.
Barcellos, Levy, and Townsend each clocked personal records in the 200 breaststroke while Audrey Hill swam a strong 500 Free. The CMS Athenas will venture across the street to Haldeman pool to compete against the Sagehens on Saturday.

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING Overall: 8-2 SCIAC: 5-0

The Pomona-Pitzer Aquahens won 10 of 13 events this past weekend at Haldeman Pool . Sagehen diver Matt Smart was a double event winner as he continues to dominate the boards. Mike Gaertner scored a personal best performance in his backstroke lead off (:57.81) on the medley relay and Dustin Baker also notched a personal record in winning the 200 fly (2:01.43).
Additional event winners for Pomona-Pitzer included Aaron Bruhl 1650 freestyle (17:27.61), Adam Nisenbaum 50 freestyle (:22.07), Scott Swanson 200 breaststroke (2:18.14), Andy Gansner 400 indivual medley (4:37.32), and Ian Cooley 100 freestyle (:50.67). This weekend against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will be the final home performance of a special group of Sagehen seniors. Swanson, Nisenbaum, Bruhl, Gansner, and Eric Salinger are all four-year letterman who have carried the load, established records and provided enthusiasm for Pomona-Pitzer Swimming since 1996.

WOMEN'S TENNIS Overall: 0-0 SCIAC: 0-0

1/29-1/30 at Redlands Tourney

This last weekend the Pomona-Pitzer women's tennis team participated in the University of Redlands Tennis Tournament. The tournament was structured with four flights in both singles and doubles. Point Loma's Theresa Kain defeated Bridget Humphrey of Pomona-Pitzer, 6-4, 6-2, in the top single's flight. Saghens Laura Scher, Katie Seidel, and Kristina Sturman all won their perspective single final flights.
In the finals of doubles flight A, Humphrey/Gorman lost to Harding/Sannuci of CSUB 6-1, 6-0. Sagehens Siedel/Subramanian came out on top in flight C as did the Hen team of Chavez/Sturman in flight D. The Sagehen netters do not compete again until February 12th when they start conference play on the road against Occidental.
