Stanford Invite MEN’S FOOTBALL Overall: 3-0 SCIAC:
N/A 9-23-00 win PP d. Lewis & Clark
College, 37-13 The Saghens from
Pomona-Pitzer played host to the Pioneers from Lewis & Clark College this
past Saturday, and when all was said and done, the Hens were 3-0 after another victory. For the third game in a row, the Sagehens’
rushing defense seemed impenetrable, as the Pioneers were only able to net 38
yards on the ground. On the season,
opponents of Pomona-Pitzer are averaging only 1.5 yards per carry, 42.3 yards
per game, and have not yet entered the end zone on the ground. On the afternoon,
quarterback Brian Ferrette threw for 166 yards and 2 TD’s on 14 of 23
attempts passing the football.
Ferrette also rushed the ball 10 times for 23 more yards, but leading
the way on the ground for the Sagehens was Jeremy Lim. Lim
carried the ball 24 times, netting 114 yards and a touchdown on the
day. Teohua Sanchez got into the
action at quarterback as well on Saturday, throwing for 67 yards and rushing
for 20 more. As in the previous two
weeks, a variety of Sagehens caught passes from the two quarterbacks. Leading the way this week was James
Nachtwey, who hauled in 6 balls for 83 yards with a long of 29 yards. Ryan Hernandez caught 4 balls on the day
for a total of 89 yards, and a long of 44 yards. Benjamin LaCoss and Thomas Woo also hauled in multiple catches
on the afternoon. One of Woo’s
receptions resulted in a touchdown. The Sagehens again got
off to a large lead in the game as they built a 23-0 margin going into the
fourth quarter on touchdowns by Woo, Sanchez, and Lim. Eric Nielson added a 21 yard field goal as
well. The fourth quarter saw more
Hens get in on the action as Dan Wire received his only pass for a touchdown,
and Khary Espy highlighted the defense with his 58 yard interception return
for a touchdown. The Sagehens will next play at La Verne on the 7th of
October, after resting during this, their bye week. WOMEN’S
VOLLEYBALL Overall: 3-4 SCIAC:
0-1 9/19/00 loss Whittier d. PP, 3-2 (15-13, 15-1, 8-15, 4-15, 15-10) The women’s volleyball
team opened SCIAC play last week with a tough 5 game loss to Whittier
College. The Sagehens forced a game 5
after being down 2 games to none, but fell in the final game to the Poets. On the evening, a few Sagehens had great
individual performances. Leading the
way for the Sagehens was Alison Rindlaub, who came up with 21 kills on the
night as well as collecting 20 digs.
On the night, Rindlaub hit .350.
Colleen Chrisco also had a good game for the Hens, as she compiled 13
kills and 16 digs for the match.
Renee Faulkner and Samantha Hauff also came up with 9 and 8 kills,
respectively. Erika Gamst dished out
35 assists on the evening to go along with her 12 digs. The Sagehens will next

suffered two setbacks this past week against teams from Cal Lutheran and
Chapman. Against Cal Lutheran, the
Sagehens were able to get off 7 shots, 3 by Nicole Cerra. Ashley Thompson came up with 12 saves on the
afternoon for Pomona-Pitzer. Against the team from
Chapman, the 4 goals scored in the first half of play by the Panthers proved
too much to overcome for the Hens.
Ashley Thompson came up with 8 stops in net for the contest. Jessica Ichien was able to get two shots
off against Chapman. The Hens will next
travel to Occidental on the 27th, and to Whittier on the 29th. MEN’S SOCCER Overall: 3-4 SCIAC:
2-1 9/20/00 loss Cal Lutheran d. PP, 2-1 9/23/00 win PP d. Cal Tech, 10-0 The men’s squad from
Pomona-Pitzer split two contests last week.
Against Cal Lutheran, Mario Velez got the Hens on the board in the
67th minute on a free kick, but it wasn’t enough as the Hens couldn’t
overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit.
Velez got off a total of 4 shots on the afternoon. Nick Zabriskie made 8 saves on the day for
the Sagehens. The Hens came back from
the Cal Lutheran loss in dramatic fashion as they tallied 10 goals in a
dominating win over Cal Tech. Many
Hens got into the action during the game, but leading the offensive charge
was Liam Patrick, who was able to get 3 of his 8 shots to reach the back of
the net. Seven other Sagehens had one
goal on the day as well. The Sagehens
got 43 shots off on the day, while the stiff Sagehen defense allowed only 3
shots from the opposition. The Sagehens will next
host Occidental on the 27th and travel to Whittier on the 29th. MEN’S WATER

2nd. Leading the way for the Hens was
Laura Bishop, who turned in a performance for the record books. Of the 209 runners in the field, Bishop
