            11/29/00            loss       Azusa Pacific d. PP, 102-62

            12/01/00            loss       Washington University d. PP, 56-53

 

            The Sagehen women were defeated twice last week in early season action.  The Hens traveled to Azusa to take on the Cougars on the 29th and ran into a tough squad.  Leading the way offensively for the Hens in that game was Meghan Gould, who went for 16 points and 4 assists on the evening.  Gre’Juana Dennis and Jamie Guenthoer each added 10 points for the Sagehens.  Dennis also came up with 6 rebounds for the contest.  The Hens were able to shoot just 38 % from the floor against the Cougars.

            On the first of December, the Sagehens played traditional power Washington University.  The Hens soared out to a 7 point halftime lead and scored the first 10 points of the second half, but could not hold off the Bears of Washington.  In that second half, the Hens shot just 6 –25 from the floor.  Maya Jones paced the Sagehens’ offensive attack with 16 points.  Sojourner Howe contributed 10 points and 7 boards for the Hens, and Meghan Gould collected 11 points to go with her 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

            The Hens have a busy week this week as they will play host to teams on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. 

 

             

 

MEN’S BASKETBALL                                                                            Overall:  0-5            SCIAC: 0-0

 

            11/28/00            loss       Biola d. PP, 61-44

 

            The Sagehen men played host to Biola last week and came up short to a tough Eagle team.  The Hens went into halftime down by just two points but the Eagles outscored the Hens by 15 in the second and final stanza.  Travis Bray and Tyler Velten paced the Hens offensively with 14 and 10 points, respectively.  Jeremiah Martin put up 9 points as well.  Jason Howie and Sterling Struckmeyer each grabbed 5 boards for the Hens to lead the team.  For the game, the Hens shot 32 % from the field and 67 % from the free-throw line.

            The Hens travel to Concordia on Tuesday and play host to Hope International on Saturday.

            The men’s swim/dive team did not compete last weekend and will next walk across the street to compete in the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Invitational.

            11/30/00-12/02/00          Speedo Cup Invitational

 

            The Sagehens attended the Speedo Cup Invitational held in the Belmont Olympic Pool in Long Beach, California.  The Invitational offered the Hens the chance to compete against several well known Division 1 teams, including UCLA and USC.  Several Hens rested for the meet and the pool proved to be fast as Christen Parker, Lucia Schmit, and Kate Bollinger all turned in National qualifying times.  Michelle Adams, Jessie Neufeld, and Claire Townsend also produced lifetime best swims.  The qualifying times for Bollinger and Schmit came in the 400 IM, as Bollinger recorded a time of 4.44.34 and Schmit a time of 4.44.50.  Parker’s qualifying time came in the 200 Free as she swam the race in 1.56.46.

            The women’s swim/dive team will next compete in the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Invitational this weekend.
