Ben Belletto has been the head men's tennis coach since 2003. Upon coming to Pomona-Pitzer, it was Belletto's goal to instill a sense of direction and consistency to a program already possessing a rich history. Currently, Belletto is the third longest-tenured coach in the men's tennis program's history. In four years as head coach, he has coached four NCAA all-Americans, and guided the Sagehens into the national rankings, where they finished the 2007 season ranked #29.
During the summer, Belletto co-directs the Nike Tennis Camp at UC Santa Cruz with legendary Santa Cruz men's tennis Coach Bob Hansen.
Before arriving to Pomona-Pitzer, Belletto ran a year-round junior tennis program in Santa Cruz. In 2002, Belletto was the head coach at Piedmont High School
in Northern California, where he led his team to the division title.
Ben's first head coaching experience came in 1998 when he
returned to his high school alma mater as head coach of Marin Catholic High School.
As a player, Belletto was an all-conference doubles selection
and qualified for the Southern California Junior College
Championships in 1997 while playing for Santa Barbara City
College. In 1999, he was the
number one singles and doubles player for Cabrillo College,
where he earned all-league honors and qualified for the Northern
California Junior College Championships.
A 2001 graduate of St. Mary's College of
California with a BA in Politics, coach Belletto is also a USPTA
certified tennis instructor. In addition to his coaching duties,
Ben is also the Sports Information Director and fall sports
Events Manager. Coach Belletto is currently pursuing his Masters degree in Physical
Education at Azusa Pacific University. |
