Pomona's athletics facilities compare favorably with those
of any NCAA Division III college in the country, surprising
visitors with a scale and quality that exceeds expectations
for a small college. The facilities are open to all students
regardless of participation in organized sports.
The centerpiece is the Lilliore Green Rains Center for Sport
and Recreation. It houses two gymnasiums which can be
arranged into five regulation basketball courts, as well as
volleyball and badminton courts. Also within the center are
four racquetball/handball courts and two squash courts. The
weight-training facility includes a complete set of Cybex
equipment, free weights and fitness machines. You'll also
find an exercise room for aerobics, martial arts yoga and
fence, plus locker rooms for varsity athletes, other
students, faculty and staff.
Outdoor sports fields make it easy to enjoy the sunny
Southern California weather.
Pomona's campus stretches over 140 acres, providing space
for excellent athletic facilities. They include:
-
The
Haldeman Aquatics Center, completed in 1991, with a
50-meter by 25 yards Olympic-size pool, one- and
three-meter diving boards and separate locker and training
facilities. The campus also has a second 25-yard pool and
diving well.
- Football, baseball, soccer and softball fields, all
completed or rebuilt within the last 10 years.
- Fourteen all-weather tennis courts.
- a 400-meter all-weather track and adjacent field
facilities.
- Four additional fields for soccer and field hockey.
The College's soccer fields served as training facilities
for the four semifinalists in the 1999 Women's World Cup
and in 2000 were used by the U.S. Men's National Team for
training.
